A Little Excitement

I was so excited for today to come because our birth mom had an ultrasound scheduled for this morning. I met her and the social worker at the doctor's office this morning at 8:30. The ultrasound went great and we got great news. The baby is no longer breach, but is head down and bouncing on her cervix. He is almost six pounds (oh yeah, she is 35 weeks 2 days today). The cord is in a great position and his lungs are already practicing how to breathe.

Let me remind you, our birth mom has been contracting since 32 weeks and has been hooked up to a pump providing medication to stop the contractions. She has been hooking up to a monitor several times a day to monitor contractions and has daily contact with the nurses. Well, this morning she was contracting really badly during the ultrasound. They wanted to check her to see if she was dilated, however, when the nurse practitioner heard from the tech what was going on nobody wanted to touch her and aggravate things. Instead, we were sent over to Labor and Delivery at the hospital. Fortunately, it's also the same hospital where B works. They checked her right away and found that while she is 80% effaced she wasn't dilated at all. The decision was made to continue to try to stop her labor, so they just pumped her full of more medicine and monitored her for a few hours. We were able to leave around 3pm. We know that her contractions won't be stopped, but if they can be minimized that should hold things off for a little bit. If she has another flare up we are all heading back to the hospital. On Monday she has an appointment to see her doctor and at that time she should be able to stop the meds since she will be 36 weeks by then. So, we are pretty much expecting to see a baby by next weekend.

While hanging around at hospitals really isn't the most fun thing to do, it was actually a pretty fun day. We had lots of time to visit and get to know each other better. We are both very comfortable with each other and get along really well.

Wow, it's getting so close now!
