Celebrating in Vegas

Brian's birthday surprise was a weekend trip to Las Vegas so that we could go to the Pogues concert at the House of Blues. I actually managed to keep it a surprise! I put the tickets into one of his old Pogues CD cases and wrapped it up. Friday morning when Brian opened his gifts he was a little confused, since I had been telling him for months that we couldn't go to Vegas for his birthday. However, once it all sank in he was more than willing to go along with it. I had already packed his suitcase so we didn't have much to do before we got going. Brian was a little concerned about what I may have packed for him, but he was a really good sport about it. As it turned out I inadvertently packed only blue shirts for him! We arrived in Vegas late Friday afternoon. We were staying at The Luxor, which while OK, really is not the place it once was. We had dinner that night at the Luxor Steakhouse then went to see Zoomanity at New York New York. That was a different show, to put in mildly. We much preferred La Reve. On Saturday it was raining so we lounged around the hotel after getting a late start. We also saw a couple of IMAX movies and then relaxed a bit watching a baseball game. We shared a sandwich and then went to the House of Blues. We hadn't been there before and were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked it. We ended up with really good seats and greatly enjoyed the show. On Sunday morning we had breakfast at the buffet, then hit the road for home. All in all, it was a memorable celebration for Brian's 35th, and some much needed down time for us.
