A Boy and his Baby

Andy spends a lot of time playing with several little girls who are 1 to 3 years older than him. So, by default he also plays with dolls and other pink girly stuff. Last Christmas I got him a baby boy doll because, well, it was something I thought he would like. And he did. And does. But, this really wasn't a toy that he played with very often.

Since we started potty training last week there has been a lot of emphasis about what a big boy Andy is. I guess as part of his processing he has been extra interested in his baby. His baby has been a constant fixture. The baby sits on the bathroom counter while Andy uses the potty. The baby sits at the kitchen table while Andy eats. Andy tries to share his sippy cups and apples with the baby. The baby sleeps in Andy's bed. You get the idea.

I guess I didn't realize how close they had become.

This morning when I went in to wake up Andy his baby was in bed with him. Andy had the baby's little plastic foot in his mouth. As I was waking him he really didn't want to let it go. It was cute, funny, and kind of creepy all at the same time.

  1. I think it's great. Austin has a few babies and bears. He switches back and forth between the bears or the babies doing things.

  2. Will has a GIGANTIC stuffed Nemo that he MUST have with him everywhere. It's great that they have these transitional items, but I agree with you, it can almost be kinda creepy.
