Back in the Lower 48

Well, we just couldn't hack it. We came back from Alaska early. We took a flight out late Tuesday night rather than waiting until Sunday. We are both really glad that we did! We were having a wonderful time (and I'll be sharing pictures later as soon as I load them onto my computer), but we needed to come home. Well, we didn't need to because our birth mom was having troubles, but rather because our agency was a little nervous with us being so far away and delivery being possibly imminent.

We got home mid-morning today and I spent some time getting situated in the house with a few groceries and going through the mail and such. Then, I talked to and hired an attorney to work on some of the adoption paperwork for us. This afternoon I ran a couple of errands and then met up with our social worker for about an hour. She is simply awesome! She had some really good feedback for us from our birth parents and then spent some time covering what we can expect from here on out. This is, quite simply, the best situation she has ever facilitated. She even told me today that the birth parents remind her of a younger version of B and me. I will be going along to a doctor's appointment on Monday with both our birth mom and the social worker. I'm really looking forward to it. There will be an ultrasound, which will be really exciting, though I'm a little worried about how I'll handle it. Lastly, our social worker told me that it is time for us to call around and find a pediatrician. This just seems so weird.

Afterwards B and I went to the giant baby stuff store. We actually bought a car seat. We looked at other things, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy anything yet, and setting up a registry just seem too scary. But hey, we did buy a car seat, because after all, without that we can't even bring a baby home from the hospital.

I so appreciate all of the support and encouragement I've received here, as well as all of the helpful hints and tips. I'm keeping a list of everything and it is really helping, so keep it up!

Chris that is wonderful. I am behind with the news because I was in South Carolina for 2 weeks. We just got home and read the great news. You and Brian did the right thing by waiting for the right situation. I am so excited for you. Keep me posted and good luck to you and the birth mom.

PS the best product I ever used was the cloth diapers (not the birdseye ones (not as soft) or the prefolded. We originally used them for Josh as diapers (and it lasted about a day) but they are the best burp, spill, blanket or whatever you can think of to use them for. We still have them for Samantha (she now uses them for her dolls). But they are great for burp pads especially.

You will learn quick about parenthood. And we are sure you both will do a great job

  13. You've got to do the registry. Did you know you can actually do it online if you're not comfortable doing it in the store? I really enjoyed it.

I'm glad the situation is going so well and I hope she will stay pregnant and cook the baby a little longer!

    Good luck!

  16. Chris,

I am so happy for you and Brian. No one else I know is more deserving of this happiness.

Still mending from complications from c-section post op. Will be in contact hopefully sooner than later. Gotta get back downstairs before the family finds out I'm up here at the computer...

    love,
