Let me start this by saying that day 2 of the 3 day potty training program sucked great big hairy monkey balls.
Andy seemed to be having even more accidents than the first day and I was constantly cleaning. The only thing I was doing more often than cleaning was telling Andy to tell me when he needed to potty. He was ignoring me. We were both stir crazy from being in the house for so long. It was ugly. It was miserable. I couldn't believe that I was spending my fall break this way. In fact, I even had to clean up a mess after Molly. I prayed that I would do a better job with Andy than I have with Molly.
Day 3 rolled around, and Andy woke up dry after sleeping for 5 hours. Accidents were still fairly prevalent. Andy was still tired of me telling him to tell me when he had to go potty. I spent huge amounts of time cleaning up after accidents. In a panic I re-read the book. And I found some solace. Everything that Andy was doing was totally typical. I just needed to stay the course and keep being positive, full or praise and consistent. Brian had begun to doubt me, so I had him do some reading as well.
I kept thinking that part of the trouble might be that Andy has had a cough and a little cold. At midnight last night he woke up crying and coughing. We went to him expecting to find him wet and cold. Instead, he was dry. We brought him to the potty and he went. I easily put him back to bed. This morning Andy woke up around 8:00. Totally and completely dry! A few minutes later he asked to go potty, and he went.
It's now 1:30. Andy is napping. There have been no accidents. He's still wearing the same underpants I put him in after his bath last night. I'm hopeful.
