9 Days In

School (with actual, real live kids in attendance) has been in for almost two weeks now, though I've been working for a month. I can easily say that I was more prepared this year than any other year, however, I'm still not very settled now.

I really, really like my class. And that's saying a lot because I was more than a little scared to find out that I have 16 boys and only 8 girls. I'm also really enjoying the relatively small class size. Kids are learning routines and are eager for all that third grade has to offer. I'm finding that I have to do some things a little different to keep all those boys on track.

The downside is that since our grade level has such small class sizes there could be some changes to accommodate some of the larger classes at other grade levels both at our school and other schools in the district. We are all waiting on pins and needles to see what is going to happen, and holding our breaths that things stay just the way they are. The stress is really beginning to take its toll. It could be another week or so before we know anything.

Things on the home front are just plain crazy! Just one week into the school year Andy got sick. On Sunday night he woke up at midnight crying, and with a really high fever. I gave him some tylenol, and a couple of hours later we were all able to get to sleep. Brian had to call in on Monday to stay home with him, and I went to school on a grand total of 3 hours of sleep. Ugh! Andy was fine all day on Monday. No fever at all and his activity level was normal. All was well.

Tuesday morning at 6am when Andy woke up I found that he was burning hot with another high fever. Brian has already left for the hospital, and just couldn't take another day off. I called for a sub, threw on some clothes, grabbed Andy, and ran over to my classroom to prepare sub plans. After we got back home Andy had a little breakfast, and then played pretty normally. Around 10 I put him down for a nap, and when he woke an hour later he just wasn't the same kid. His fever was even higher and he was quite obviously really feeling bad. I called and got him a doctor appointment for later in the afternoon. I spend the rest of the day holding him and watching Nick Jr. My poor boy!

See? Pretty pathetic, huh?

Turns out he has a pair of ear infections of an oddball variety that causes even extra pain. He's on the mend now, except now we are dealing with the revenge of antibiotics, in the yucky diaper sort of way, if you catch my drift. This part stinks too, literally and figuratively. This morning when he got up he had a major blowout that ran all down his leg and pooled on the carpet in his room before I could get to him. I had to give the poor little guy a bath too. All of this happened 10 minutes before we were scheduled to leave the house! So, by the time I actually made it into school it was actually a relief.

I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a good day, I mean, how bad can a Friday be? I'm going to leave school in the afternoon at a decent hour, and I'm not going to bring a single bit home with me for the weekend. I'm going to take the entire weekend off!

Speaking of the weekend, Andy has a birthday party to go to on Saturday, and I have a baby shower to go to on Sunday. Should be pretty fun.

So, what do you have planned for the weekend?

  1. I thought we were doing something as a family but now BigP is working a night shift Saturday night which blows the whole weekend because he will be asleep all day both days.

I sure hope he feels better soon. I HATE that the meds to make them feel better tears them up so much - that just isn't fair.

  2. Wow, busy times, eh?! Hope Andy feels better soon!

This weekend, going to an Amusement Park and then a Pool Party. Trying to push away fall for a little bit longer. :-)

  3. I hope Andy feels better soon! Chipmunk is on an antibiotic which is making for some lovely diapers. Not to mention the 2 meds for the ned and a steroid for the inflammation in her lungs, so she's climbing the walls b/c they have her so hyper. It's been interesting to say the least.

I'm having a Mommy Saturday...getting my nails done, doing some shopping for ME, and then getting my hair done at a hair party with our play group moms. Then church on Sunday and some birthday party shopping. Little Bit will be 2 in a couple weeks! 8-)

  4. I feel your pain! Victoria had an ear infection recently and woke up crying every fifteen minutes for five hours. I "slept" on the floor of her bedroom until it finally dawned on me that this behavior was highly unusual and she probably had an ear infection. So I finally gave her Tylenol and was able to get three hours of sleep myself. I was like a zombie at work the next day. Weekend should be good with a three year old's birthday party on Sunday at Peter Piper...

Poor baby! That pic is simply pathetic! I am so glad he is on the mend (hopefully all the way by now!)

Sorry to hear about Andy. Hopefully he is feeling better by now. Samantha went through 2 months of ear infections/antiobiotics until her ear drum finally burst and she passed out. That was the scariest moment of my life. But she rarely gets them now. Heres to the future. School started for us this week. We are all refreshing after a few hard busy days of getting back into a routine. Plus I'm cleaning my house (not very exciting). Take care, Laurie
