More Firsts

Before I jump into today's post I'll update you on how my sweet lil' Andy-pants is doing. He's soooooo much better now and we are all happy campers. We just gave him his last breathing treatment tonight, though he does have a few more days of antibiotics to go. Best of all, he's back to all smiles, all the time. And that's the way I like him best!

A couple of weeks ago we started feeding Andrew rice cereal. Here's a picture of our first attempt. While he has learned to keep food in his mouth and actually swallow it, we have learned to actually get it into his mouth. We've since added squash, sweet potatoes and carrots and he loves it all.

And here's the gratuitous shot of his first little teeth popping through, which he loves to show off.
Andrew is finally big enough to fit into his jumper. His feet don't quite reach the floor, even at the lowest setting, but he LOVES to play here and can be completely amused for about 30 minutes. We are absolutely loving our friends Glenna and John for giving Andrew (and us!) this wonderful gift. I should also note that Molly loves this jumper too. When Andrew isn't playing in it she spins one of the toys around.

We did have another first yesterday, however, I just couldn't bring myself to document it digitally. You see, Andrew has been a little, shall we say, "stopped up", and we've been waiting for several days for some significant diaper action. In my impatience I gave him some apple/prune juice on Sunday night. We (maybe a little evil-ly) hoped the situation would resolve itself while he was at my mom's yesterday. Let me say that good things don't come to those who try to manipulate poop. While B was giving Andrew a bottle last night he could feel the diaper being filled. Like any good dad, he let me know that my special talents were needed. I (understandably) wasn't in a huge hurry and waited a few minutes. B put Andrew on the changing table of the pack-n-play and then noticed that his leg and shorts were covered in runny poop. Like any good wife, I laughed. It's also important to note that Andrew was wearing a onesie and brown pants, which didn't reveal any secrets. When I peeled his pants off of him they turned inside out, and let me tell you, the entire inside of one leg was covered in runny poop from waist to ankle. It goes without saying, so was Andrew. It was everywhere, and in fact, I'm not sure that the diaper even helped to contain anything. B ran to get a bucket for the clothes, which in the spirit of full disclosure, I was more than willing to just throw away. (We didn't, again, always the good dad, B rinsed them in the toilet.) I wiped Andrew up just enough to get him clean enough to put into his bathtub. He's been clean and sweet smelling ever since. And yes, this really was his first diaper blow out for us. The boy is almost 6 months old.

Well, that's it for "firsts" for now. And now, for another first, I'm going to bed before 11:00 on a school night.

  1. Lovely pictures!

I love how the pets like to play with the baby toys. Our cat is always playing with Willow’s little gym mat…

The diaper blow out story was classic!! My husband and I have a numbering system. A 1 or 2 is just a normal poop. 3 or 4 is a poop that is pretty bad—a change of clothes in order. Force 5 or above—change of clothes and plop that kid in the tub!! Willow has had a few 5’s (and some 6’s!)

I am glad he is feeling better! AWESOME diaper blow out story. Not so m uch fun to deal with. We have had very limited blow outs, nothing this messy yet. Our blow outs usually happen up the back ...

And I owe you an email back, I hate when I save an email to make a REALLY GOOD reply but then never remember to reply. I'm a bad friend ;0

That happened to Josh when we were on an airplane once. It was awful. Luckily he was sitting on Aaron at the time. I learned to always bring a change of clothes with me after that.

I am glad he is feeling better now. Being sick is so hard on the whole family, now you can relax and enjoy each other.

    Take care, Laurie

I Can't believe he's got TWO teeth!! Courtney's not even close to hers that I can tell! I was so bummed to see little A on the nebulizer :( I'm glad he's feeling better though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that picture of him with his hood up. It's my favorite of him so far. :)
