It's Time to Make Lemonade

I just can't guarantee it will be cold.

Last night I was enjoying a little piece of leftover chocolate birthday cake. What goes really well with chocolate cake? You got it . . . . a glass of ice cold milk. However, I noticed that I only had a glass of cool milk. It didn't bother me too much though because, after all, the chocolate cake was the main event. This morning I fixed a bowl of cereal and a glass of juice for breakfast. And darn if my juice wasn't all that refreshing and my cereal sort of luke warm. Ick. I investigated further in the refrigerator. Hmmm . . . soda cans were cool, but not cold. The deciding factor? Sticks of butter that were soft. Arghhhhh! Picture me kicking myself all over the kitchen since I let all of the maintenance agreements on all of our 3 year old appliances expire less than 90 days ago.

Luckily Brian didn't have to go to work today so he was able to let his "fingers do the walking" through the yellow pages to find a repair company to come to the house. The diagnosis is much too complicated for me to remember enough to share here, however, I do remember the highlights. The part, and repair, needed to make the refrigerator side cold again is going to cost $500. And it will be the end of the week before this repair will happen.

Did I happen to mention that it is 113F today? And that today's heat advisory is from 10 am to 8 pm?

So while this whole situation is a like a nice bunch of lemons, I do have a few things to be happy about. First of all, the main computer thing-a-ma-jig didn't crap out until after we hosted a party for 25 people. And lastly, since my birthday is on Sunday I have just received no less than 4 email certificates for free meals. Looks like this week we will be going to Sweet Tomatoes, Red Robin, Rubios and Carvers.

So, would you care to join me for some luke warm lemonade? Or perhaps some home brew, since the beer cooler in the garage is unaffected?

$500 for a part. It may be better to get a new one. I think warranties stink too. We have been trying to get our dishwasher fixed on the home warranty from the house purchase since Feb. and I am still washing dishes by hand. Warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on. It is a good thing that we didn't rely on it for our electric problem or our house would have burned down. So I am biased. I would buy a new one. Laurie D.

PS I am waiting for the dishwasher guy now (6:30 pm) already an hour late if you don't count his not showing up yesterday

  2. I love lukewarm everything! I even add hot water to tap water so it's warmer. I should mention that I lived in Australia for 6 years :) I still don't like things cold. Weird?

  3. We had problems with our refrigerator after the warranty expired. Turns out if we went through a certifed repairman, we didn't have to pay for the visit or the time to make the repair, only the part. It may be worth calling the company if only to find out if you can save a little money.

  4. Ugh, I almost vote for a new one, too. A girl always needs a new 'fridge! :)

    Happy early Birthday!

  5. Any neighbor that can store your stuff that you won't need everyday? Can you put the rest in a cooler or a freezer?

    I'm sorry. This really sucks.

  6. Actually, we need to make do with the current frige until it really kicks the bucket. It is only 3 years old, so it is worth fixing Luckily the freezer part is still working and we do have a little space in the beer cooler in the garage. Heaven forbid we actually take the keg out to make more room for groceries!

Happy Belated Birthday! That's our luck with warranties too. Bummer. Hope you enjoyed eating out! ;)

  8. Ughh...we went through that the last two summers. Finally after our fourth repair call for the same part we gave up and bought a new fridge.

Now we have had two repair visits in the last couple months because the bottom freezer drawer doesn't shut right, so things frost up. Very frustrating!

    Hope you have better luck!
