9 Days In

School (with actual, real live kids in attendance) has been in for almost two weeks now, though I've been working for a month. I can easily say that I was more prepared this year than any other year, however, I'm still not very settled now.

I really, really like my class. And that's saying a lot because I was more than a little scared to find out that I have 16 boys and only 8 girls. I'm also really enjoying the relatively small class size. Kids are learning routines and are eager for all that third grade has to offer. I'm finding that I have to do some things a little different to keep all those boys on track.

The downside is that since our grade level has such small class sizes there could be some changes to accommodate some of the larger classes at other grade levels both at our school and other schools in the district. We are all waiting on pins and needles to see what is going to happen, and holding our breaths that things stay just the way they are. The stress is really beginning to take its toll. It could be another week or so before we know anything.

Things on the home front are just plain crazy! Just one week into the school year Andy got sick. On Sunday night he woke up at midnight crying, and with a really high fever. I gave him some tylenol, and a couple of hours later we were all able to get to sleep. Brian had to call in on Monday to stay home with him, and I went to school on a grand total of 3 hours of sleep. Ugh! Andy was fine all day on Monday. No fever at all and his activity level was normal. All was well.

Tuesday morning at 6am when Andy woke up I found that he was burning hot with another high fever. Brian has already left for the hospital, and just couldn't take another day off. I called for a sub, threw on some clothes, grabbed Andy, and ran over to my classroom to prepare sub plans. After we got back home Andy had a little breakfast, and then played pretty normally. Around 10 I put him down for a nap, and when he woke an hour later he just wasn't the same kid. His fever was even higher and he was quite obviously really feeling bad. I called and got him a doctor appointment for later in the afternoon. I spend the rest of the day holding him and watching Nick Jr. My poor boy!

See? Pretty pathetic, huh?

Turns out he has a pair of ear infections of an oddball variety that causes even extra pain. He's on the mend now, except now we are dealing with the revenge of antibiotics, in the yucky diaper sort of way, if you catch my drift. This part stinks too, literally and figuratively. This morning when he got up he had a major blowout that ran all down his leg and pooled on the carpet in his room before I could get to him. I had to give the poor little guy a bath too. All of this happened 10 minutes before we were scheduled to leave the house! So, by the time I actually made it into school it was actually a relief.

I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a good day, I mean, how bad can a Friday be? I'm going to leave school in the afternoon at a decent hour, and I'm not going to bring a single bit home with me for the weekend. I'm going to take the entire weekend off!

Speaking of the weekend, Andy has a birthday party to go to on Saturday, and I have a baby shower to go to on Sunday. Should be pretty fun.

So, what do you have planned for the weekend?
